About this deal

The retail box of the Sony Xperia 10 V is very Spartan-like; it contains just the phone and nothing else.

It supports wired Hi-res Audio, although there is also Bluetooth with hi-res, LDAC and Bluetooth LE support. In practice, the images that the 10 V captures aren’t anything particularly great, with a definite lack of detail and depth, and colours tend to look a bit washed out, but it gets the job done in a pinch.

They’re not particularly loud or punchy, however, and I found that I needed to crank them up to around the halfway mark in normal YouTube video-watching scenarios.

Even with a top-notch screen at an attractive aspect ratio, the Xperia 10 V forgets what is keeping other budget phones in our hands years after purchase. It perfects an already great formula, adding stereo speakers, a brighter display, a slightly better main camera, and keeping the same stunning battery life in a very compact and lightweight package.

We assess the sound quality of the external speakers with a range of different music, so you can be assured that it will do your favourite tracks justice. And the Xperia 10 V is a prime example of the Japanese electronics giant potentially overthinking things. A 15-minute resuscitation session saw it gain 17%, accurately managing to suck up 34% total in 30 minutes.

A half-hour charge is enough to get some mid-range phones close to 70%; the Xperia 10 V manages less than half that in the same time. Its Exynos 1380 chipset, while far from a powerhouse, is a bit more potent than the Snapdragon 695 inside the Xperia.

There's a portrait mode on the main camera, and you can apply some computational bokeh via a slider in the menu. We also check how the battery copes with just a 15 minute charge and how long it takes to reach 100%. The 10 V is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, as well as a 5000mAh battery.
