About this deal
In fact, when it comes to the bright end of the light spectrum, it delivers arguably the most aggressive HDR performance in its class.
The Toshiba UK31 comes with the full-set of Toshiba’s Tru Picture Engine features that cover motion (Tru Flow), upscaling (Tru Resolution) and contrast (Tru Micro Dimming). This is pretty quickly explained, though, by the set’s support for relatively high-end features such as Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound. Like all of Samsung’s TVs, it forgos support for Dolby Vision in favour of rival HDR format, HDR10+. Providing Dolby Vision on top of the more routine HDR10 and HLG HDR formats is still a compelling proposition, though. Dialogue is clear and easy to follow and both the voices and the sound effects are balanced well with any background music.
Initial installation is a no-brainer, too, sticking to the basics rather than trying to sign you up to services you likely don’t want. Toshiba hasn’t gone for the full HDR sweep by also including support for the HDR10+ system that Samsung TVs favour over Dolby Vision.
The construction of the chassis is noticeably plastic, and just as noticeable is the chunky bezel that stripes the screen.
There’s little else to talk about the appearance of the Toshiba other than to say it is feeling rather dated. It’s bright enough for everyday living room duties and is a solid option for gamers, thanks to an enviably low input lag.
