There are some genuinely funny moments here and there and it gets an extra half point for good use of Edinburgh locations. And what better way to test out his venture than to host a fifteenth-year high school reunion, the biggest social event of his life, except no one remembers who Gavin is. The line "so that the others may do" tells of something which must be done for others to follow suit.
The results range from hard-boiled police procedural to historical whodunit and from the wildly comic to the spookily supernatural. Previously Douglas Henshall had voiced a radio adaptation of the novel and was believed to be a strong contender for the lead role in the film adaptation.The main character in the Parlabane book series, Jack Parlabane crosses paths with several characters in the book series including Darren, a hit man, and a lesbian constable detective. Flesh Wounds is a part of another brilliantly written book series from Chris Brookmyre that has continued to wow readers throughout the world.
Rather than ruin it for people i won't say what the changes were, but in my eyes James Nesbitt is perfect as Jack Parlabane (even though the character is from Glasgow). There are plenty of plot holes and references to events that must have wound up on the cutting room floor, with the effect that all in all it felt fairly anaemic. In the immediate aftermath of the fire, the focus was rightly placed on providing food, shelter and health care for those left homeless – but it is important that we don’t lose sight of the psychological impact this fire will have had on its survivors. Nesbitt plays a journalist who has a really bad hangover (the quite ugly one morning in the title) who walks in to a neighbors flat to find him brutally murdered, he then has to find out what happened.Meeting with DC Jenny Dalziel, Jack explains about the ampoule, and Jenny agrees to work with him quid pro quo provided he doesn't incriminate himself. Answering the door at his flat, Jack and Sarah are cornered by Lime, who holds them at gunpoint while a grievously mutilated Darren appears.
