About this deal
This genus has representatives in tropical southern Asia from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia, and the common hill myna, a popular cage bird, has been introduced to the United States. It is a member of the starling family (Sturnidae), resident in hill regions of South Asia and Southeast Asia. The Nias and Enggano hill mynas differ in details of the facial wattles, and size, particularly that of the bill.
Lesser Hill Mynas or Southern Hill Mynas (Gracula religiosa indica) are also capable of learning words and phrases, but their voice has a higher pitch and they don’t have the tone ranges needed to imitate human voice as well as the Greater Indian Hill and Common Hill Mynas.
But in the 1990s, nearly 20,000 wild-caught birds, mostly adults and juveniles, were brought into trade each year.
When I started to compile this article about our Greater Indian Hill Mynas I found a huge amount of confusing and conflicting information about the species and subspecies of Hill Mynas ( Graculas). To view the purposes they believe they have legitimate interest for, or to object to this data processing use the vendor list link below.
