Continuing to honor the 50 th anniversary of Hip Hop in 2023, Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and Certified proudly present Cypress Hill’s Black Sunday Expanded 30 TH Anniversary Edition digital release, out July 20, 2023. It is also undeniably true that they are rap’s most passionate advocates for the legalisation of marijuana, and they have lots and lots of songs about that very subject. The tone is set by “I Wanna Get High”, in which DJ Muggs blends samples from three different songs and creates a sound that evokes billows of smoke.On Elephants, DJ Muggs came armed with rich, psychedelic beats (the result of him recording after spending time in King Solomon’s Tomb, among other locales), while Back In Black sees Cypress Hill join forces with Detroit-based producer Black Milk for some old-school boom-bap excursions.

The stoned atmosphere continues with “Legalize It” and “Hits from the Bong” (which makes great use of Dusty Springfield’s “Son Of A Preacher Man”), but Black Sunday still has plenty of Los Angeles menace.While there’s nothing quite as exquisitely ominous as EOA’s Loco, Warlord or Insane OG here, it’s equally true that their last record didn’t have anything as triumphant-sounding as Break Of Dawn.

Lover of all things music, Vanessa De La Rosa has been involved in the music scene most of her life in different capacities. In the beginning, in 1991, we opened for the likes of Naughty By Nature and Ice Cube, but developed a reputation for energetic shows. The song "Hand on the Glock" is a re-recorded version of the track " Hand on the Pump" from the debut album Cypress Hill.Track 2 contains elements from "The Wizard" (Iommi/Butler/Ward/Osbourne) published by Essex Music International, Inc. I don’t think he took it as seriously as us in terms of what this shit can turn into, but prior to that we’d been friends and we had a lot of mutual friends who wanted us to mend the relationship.
